Smittys win opening game in Clark tourney

CLARK – The Aberdeen Smittys exploded for seven runs in the first inning, watched the lead evaporate, before finishing strong in a 12-7 American Legion baseball win over Hankinson-Lidgerwood, N.D., in the opening round of the Clark Tournament on Thursday afternoon.

The Smittys pounded out a dozen hits and took advantage of five errors in the contest.

Brock Martin, Tyler Hoffman, Aiden McCafferty, Eian Risager each had a pair of hits to lead the Aberdeen attack. Martin drove in three runs, while Hoffman and Josh Steinwandt each plated two.

Matt Feiock scored three runs for the Smittys.

Aberdeen will take on Clark at 4 this afternoon. The tourney concludes on Saturday.
