WATERTOWN – The scoring drought continued for a third straight game for the Aberdeen Central girls’ soccer program Monday afternoon, as the Golden Eagles dropped a 1-0 decision to Watertown. The loss marked the third straight shutout for Central.

“Third game where we played well and outshot our opponent, but did not score,” said Central coach Merle Aske.

Central outshot the host squad by a healthy margin, firing off 29 shots to Watertown’s 15. Nineteen of the Golden Eagles’ attempts were on frame, compared to just six for the Arrows.

“We need to find the last pass to get in behind (the defense) and we have to find a way to finish with a goal,” Aske said. “The midfield moved the ball well through the middle third, just couldn’t get back in good position in the final third to score.”

Watertown’s goal came in the 65th minute of action courtesy of Brooklyn Randall. It proved just enough to squeak the Arrows into the win column for just the third time this season.

Since a 10-0 win over Huron on Sept. 3, Central has gone 0-3-2, scoring just three goals in those five games.

The Golden Eagles will look to get back on track Saturday when they host Yankton in the home finale. Game time is set for 2 p.m. at the Brownell Activities Complex.
