SISSETON – Aberdeen Roncalli survived a close opening set and then took control for a straight set Northeast Conference volleyball win over Sisseton Thursday night.

The Cavaliers collected 11 aces and racked up a three-set season high 41 kills on the way to 25-23, 25-17, 25-19 victory.

“The girls played team ball tonight,” said Roncalli assistant coach Alyssa Voeller. “We had aggressive serves, which threw them out of system. We were able to keep the energy on our side which helps win games.”

After the Cavaliers pulled out a tight first set, Voeller told her players they needed to reduce their errors going forward.

“After finally pulling out the win, we discussed in our huddle the importance of cleaning up our unforced errors and the girls took it to heart,” Voeller said. “They played much more in control the following two sets.”

Ava Hanson played a key role in the sweep. The senior finished with 16 kills, 13 digs and 5 blocks.

“Ava Hanson’s leadership and experience was key in critical moments tonight,” Voeller said.

McKenna O’Keefe contributed 13 kills, while Maddie Hubber added three aces and 32 set assists. Rylee Voeller topped the Cavaliers with fives aces and 16 digs.

“Rylee Voeller’s and Maddie Huber’s serves gained us some key leads tonight,” Coach Voeller said.

The win gave the Cavaliers a shot of confidence after they had dropped three of their past four matches.

“Overall, it was a fun night and momentum booster for the girls,” Coach Voeller said.

Roncalli, 5-5 on the season, has a busy week coming up, playing at Warner on Tuesday, before hosting Clark-Willow Lake on Thursday, and Belle Fourche next Friday.
