MITCHELL – Aberdeen Central broke a four-game scoreless skid with a trio of goals Tuesday night, but still was unable find a way into the win column, battling Mitchell to a 3-3 draw in the regular season finale in Eastern South Dakota Conference girls’ soccer.

“It was nice to be able to get the goals,” said Central coach Merle Aske. “The girls did a really good job. We still left some out there, but at least we got some finished.”

The three goals were the first Golden Eagle goals since a 2-1 loss at home to Sioux Falls Roosevelt on Sept. 10.

Central wasted little time finding the net on Tuesday, as Kamryn Arnesen put the Golden Eagles on the board just two minutes into the contest.

Little else transpired the rest of the half, and Central went into the break with a 1-0 lead.

“The girls did a good job of moving the ball around and putting it in dangerous positions,” Aske said, adding that the Golden Eagles had a couple other breakaway chances that just missed.

Gracie Lozenski added an insurance goal for Central early in the second half, but the host Kernels didn’t back down. Mitchell used two free kicks and a corner kick to storm back into the lead.

Aske said the Golden Eagle defense held strong outside of those set piece situations.

“The defense did a good job other than a couple of fouls that gave them some opportunities,” he said.

Down 3-2, Central needed a late spark and got one in the form of Keyana Stillman, who found the net in the 63rd minute.

“Win, lose or tie, this (result) isn’t going to change much,” Aske said. “At least we’re going into the playoffs on a positive note.”

Final standings have yet to be determined with some teams still playing later in the week.

“We have six days to get ready for wherever we go on the road,” Aske said.
