GARRETSON – The Groton girls’ soccer team played its first game in more than two weeks and blanked Garretson 3-0 in Class A soccer on Saturday.

The Tigers received goals from three different players in the victory.

“We had multiple opportunities on net in the opening 10 minutes before a good midfield combination play from Kayla Lehr and McKenna Tietz opened space for Jerica Locke to run in upon and open the scoring,” said Groton girls’ coach Matt Baumgartner. “Minutes later Brenna Imrie found Brooklyn Hansen in space and her shot was picture perfect in the top of the net. Mia Crank responded with a long 40-yard shot 14 minutes later to round out the half and the scoring on the day.”

Jaedyn Penning and Mia Crank each had one save sharing goalkeeping duties for the Tigers.

Groton will now get right back to action opening up the playoffs on Tuesday hosting Vermillion.

“Saturday’s matchup was looked at as being a great opportunity to build our momentum and craft our message to the rest of the state heading into the playoffs that we have one big goal this year,” Baumgartner said.

Meanwhile, the Groton boys’ capped their regular season with a 3-3 draw against Dakota Valley. The Tigers trailed 3-0 with 12 minutes remaining before storming back to level the score.

Groton received two goals from Logan Olson and a goal and a pair of assists from Ethan Kroll.
