WHITE – Aberdeen Roncalli’s path to the State A volleyball tournament ran through third-seeded Dell Rapids, and the Quarriers proved worthy of that billing.

Dell Rapids ended the Cavaliers’ season with a 25-19, 25-13, 25-8 sweep Tuesday night in a Class A SoDak 16 match-up at Deubrook Area High School.

“It was a very tough match, and we knew that going into it,” said Roncalli coach Leesa Ware. “Dell Rapids is a very solid team with lots of good talent and height.”

The Quarriers leveraged that height to their advantage all night with an offensive attack led by Madelynn Henry, who finished with 13 kills. Sophi Randall notched seven kills and a pair of blocks, while Lauryn Kloth and Peyton Hohn had six kills apiece.

Add in a service game that garnered better than 10 aces, and the Cavaliers couldn’t keep pace.

“We just couldn’t answer to them tonight,” Ware said.

Roncalli did get five kills each from Ava Hanson and McKenna O’Keefe and four more from Rylee Voeller, who was also in on a pair of blocks.

But it wasn’t enough, as Dell Rapids continued to gain momentum as the match played out.

The state tournament appearance will be a return trip for the Quarriers, who finished third a season ago and sport a 29-3 record following Tuesday’s victory. Dell Rapids will face Winner in the opening round of the State A Tournament next week at the Sanford Premier Center in Sioux Falls.

Roncalli ends its season at 17-9.
