BRITTON – Aberdeen Roncalli drilled 13 3-pointers to fuel a 76-35 Northeast Conference boys’ basketball win over Britton-Hecla Thursday night.

The long-range shooting propelled the Cavaliers to a 16-point first-quarter lead and they never looked back in securing the victory.

“There was not one that we took that didn’t look good,” said Roncalli coach Dan Gallagher. “They shot well.”

Gallagher said the shooting accuracy had multiple impacts on the contest.

“The defensive intensity just cranks up, too,” Gallagher said. “Obviously, when the shots go in you look a lot better, but as a team you feel a lot better, too.”

Interestingly enough, Britton-Hecla recently defeated Warner, a team that Roncalli lost to earlier this season.

“It’s crazy how the games can unfold,” Gallagher said. “We knew coming in this was a solid team.”

The Braves tried a couple of different options on defense, but were unable to slow down the Cavaliers.

“Our guys played really well no matter the situation that they were facing,” Gallagher said.

Jesse Hernandez nailed six 3-pointers on the way to a game-high 21 points. Aiden Fisher, who contributed four 3-pointers, finished with 14 points. Cam Olson added 11 points.

When asked if it was Roncalli’s most complete game of the season, Gallagher responded, “It’s tough to beat, I’ll say that for sure.”

Gallagher said it was the team’s best performance on offense.

“I thought overall, offensively, absolutely. … Defensively, it’s defintely up there, too,” he said.

Put it all together, and it was strong showing for the Cavaliers.

“It’s one of those games,” Gallagher said, “when shots are falling everything else just falls into place.”

Jordyn McGregor led a balanced Britton-Hecla scoring effort eight points. Dan Person followed with seven.

Roncalli, 6-6 on the season, takes on Lennox during the Dak XII-NEC Clash in Madison on Saturday.

“We’re going to have come out and play the way we did tonight,” Gallagher said, “that’s for sure.”

Tip-off is set for 11:45 in the morning, which is definitely a change in routine for the Cavaliers.

“It’s a different atmosphere playing at 11:45 vs. 7:30 at night,” Gallagher said.
