Last year on Feb. 9, 2024: Layne Cotton of Faulkton Area scored 52 points in his team’s 77-30 win over Langford Area. He was 17 of 33 from the field (4 of 9 from three-point range) and 14 of 17 from the free throw line with nine rebounds and eight steals. Cotton set two school scoring records for a single game and for a career (1,336). Faulkton 1992 graduate Ryan Melius had the career scoring record (1,335) while 2019 graduate Tyler Ogle held the single-game record (44 points).

10 years ago on Feb. 14, 2015: Feb. 14: Britton-Hecla sophomore Brooke Skoglund won the balance beam championship at the State A gymnastics meet. The last gymnast from the Aberdeen area, Class A or AA, to win an individual title was 20 years ago. Tyann Danburg of Miller won the 1995 State A uneven bars. Also at the state meet, Sisseton native and Milbank gymnastics coach Jeanne Sinclair ended her 37-year career. She started coaching gymnastics at Milbank in 1978.

That almost doubled the previous state record hatch.

50 years ago on Feb. 11, 1975: NSU defeated Dakota Wesleyan 81-74. Pacing the Wolves were
Bill Christensen (24 points), Gary Kruse (15 points) and Jeff Wepking (12 points and 20 rebounds). Chris Miller had 20 points and 20 rebounds for the Tigers.
