PIERRE – Aberdeen got off to a solid start before the Oahe Capitals came up big down the stretch on Sunday.
The hosts overcame a two-goal deficit to defeat the Cougars 4-2 in girls’ hockey action, after Aberdeen defeated Oahe on Saturday.
“We started in good control,” said Aberdeen coach David Sandvig. “As the game went on it was a sloppy back and forth of turnovers and slapping at the puck. They fired the puck when they could and it paid off.”
Maddie Sandvig started the scoring with a goal in the final minute of the first period on an assist from Rachel Siefken.
Alyssa Roehrich gave the Cougars a 2-0 lead when she took an assist from Sandvig and found the back of the net.
However, it was all Oahe after that. The Capitals got back-to-back goals from Dakota McEntaffer with 90 seconds of each other to tie the score in the second period, then tacked on two more goals in the third period for the final margin of difference.
The Cougars host Watertown for two games this weekend, the first at 8 p.m. Friday, and the second at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Odde Ice Center.
Coach Sandvig talked about upcoming foes.
“Our upcoming opponent is us I truly believe,” he said. “Our girls possess what it takes to win out. They just need to wield their talents with confidence and alacrity.”
