The Aberdeen Cougars outshot Watertown by a 3-1 margin and opened their two-game series with a 3-1 victory Friday night at the Odde Ice Center.
The Cougars fired 38 shots on goal compared to just 13 for the Lakers.
“We played good enough to win, but not as good as we can,” said Aberdeen coach David Sandvig. “We had some nice opportunities we just barely missed, so hopefully we can capitalize better on our efforts Saturday.”
After a scoreless first period, Addyson Keller opened the scoring for Aberdeen with assists from Riley Keller and Aiden Raap just 75 seconds into the period. Olivia Sandvig gave the Cougars a two-goal lead on assists from Madelyn Sandvig and Kalin Hepper.
Watertown cut the margin in half before the end of the period, but Aberdeen scored again in the third period when Allison Woehl found the back of the net off an assist from Alyssa Roehrich.
The Cougars moved to 11-8 in league play. The same two teams are back on the ice with puck drop set for 1 this afternoon at the Odde Ice Center.
