SIOUX FALLS – A promising start did not translate into the second and third quarters for the Aberdeen Central boys’ basketball program Tuesday night, as the Golden Eagles dropped a 66-50 non-conference decision to Sioux Falls Roosevelt.
Central gave the host Rough Riders a hefty push in the opening quarter, trailing by just five heading into the second stanza.
However, the Golden Eagles managed just single-digit scoring efforts in both the second and third quarters, allowing Roosevelt to stretch that lead by outscoring Central 34-16.
“We played a solid first quarter, but struggled in the second quarter,” said Central coach Brent Norberg. “Defensively, we were scrambling to get some turnovers, but that caused us to get hurt on the offensive glass. Kids played hard until the end, but the rebounds really hurt us.”
Brendan Phillips, Luke Swanson and Jacob Weishaar all finished with a dozen points for the Golden Eagles. Colby Dauwen added seven.
Memphis Bylander had 17 points to lead the way for Roosevelt. Isaiah Garang added 12, while Deng Kuek finished with nine.
The Golden Eagles, 3-15, have one game left in the regular season, as they host Sioux Falls Jefferson on Friday at Golden Eagles Arena.
