A look back at some of the sports happenings during the week of April 6-12, 2025:

Last year on April 6, 2024: After 18 losses, the Aberdeen Central softball team got its first win in program history. The 2-year-old Golden Eagles scored a school record 26 runs to defeat host Rapid City Central 26-13. Central coach Cassidy Neer’s winners had a mind-blowing 21 stolen bases in the game. Ayrlie Waldo (four hits, four runs scored and four stolen bases), Kaylee Hoffman (three hits, four runs scored and six stolen bases) and Addison Ward (two hits, four runs scored and four stolen bases) led the winners. The winning pitcher was Kaylee Kiesow. Rapid City pitchers had 13 wild pitches, walked 13 and hit nine batters.

10 years ago on April 9, 2015: In a nine-inning college baseball game that lasted nearly four and a half hours, Jamestown defeated NSU 24-22. The game featured 341 pitches thrown by NSU, 251 by Jamestown; 142 combined plate appearances with 42 hits, 25 singles, 21 runners left on base, 20 walks, 20 at-bats for Jamestown in the fourth inning, 17 runs in the fourth inning, 16 pitchers used, 15 at-bats for NSU in the eighth inning, 13 doubles, nine batters hit by pitches, six times when teams batted around in their half of an inning, six players with three or more RBIs including eight from Tyler Wiwchar of Jamestown, five errors, three home runs, three players with five hits each (Wiwchar and Jamestown teammate Lance Ibesate, and NSU’s Jack Schmidt), one triple and zero stolen bases.

20 years ago on April 8, 2005: Colorado College junior Marty Sertich won the Hobey Baker Award as the nation’s top college hockey player. He spent the 2001-02 season with the Sioux Falls Stampede. Sertich led the DI nation in scoring.

30 years ago on April 8, 1995: The Watertown Country Club is dealing with flooding as some of its fairways are under water.

40 years ago on April 6, 1985: Former Aberdeen Central standout, Iowa State quarterback and Houston Oilers running back George Amundson will be the honorary referee for the 53rd annual Aberdeen Relays.

50 years ago on April 12, 1975: Alpena native and Iowa State pitcher Del Ochsner is off to a 2-0 start for the Cyclones with a 1.10 earned run average.
