SIOUX FALLS – While the results may not have shown it, Aberdeen Roncalli made solid progress in a pair of tennis losses on Tuesday.

The Cavaliers were swept 9-0 by state-wide powers Sioux Falls Christian and Harrisburg, but still showed signs of improvement, according to coach Jason Haskell.

“On the scorecard today it looked like rough matches, and as far as wins and losses go, it was,” Haskell said, “but I was very proud of my kids. Against arguably some of the best competition in the state, my boys did not back down. Every point was earned and I never saw a single kid call it a day early. They kept their heads high and kept fighting for the next point. These are life lessons that will stick with the kids long after tennis is over.”

While the Cavaliers were never able to make a serious run against either foe, Haskell noted that the players executed things they have been working on in practice.

“There were tons of points with extended rallies and the correct strategies were being employed,” Haskell said. “It was gratifying to see the kids stepping up and trying some of the new tactics that we have been working on in practice.”

Haskell noted that despite the results, the Cavaliers are on the right track.

“At the end of the day the competition was just too good, but there were great strides forward by all the kids today,” Haskell said. “Looking forward to heading down south again next week, and a solid week of practice to prepare for it.”

Roncalli heads to Sioux Falls again on Monday where it will take on O’Gorman and then face Brandon Valley.
