GPL, Hitchcock-Tulare athletes shine at Brace-Hopfinger Relays

VOLGA – Athletes from Great Plains Lutheran and Hitchcock-Tulare turned in memorable performances at the Brace-Hopfinger Relays track and field meet on Tuesday.

Nobody had a bigger day than Lucas Johnson of GPL, who cleared a personal-best height of 6-foot 7-inces in the high jump. That’s two inches better than his previous record.

Teammate Hessel Andringa won the long jump and finished second in the triple jump.

Hitchcock-Tulare won three events on the girls’ side and one in the boys’ division.

Emma Schneider won the long jump and took second in the triple jump. Katelyn Schroeder won the javelin with teammate Ella Johnson second. Schneider also ran on the winning 400-meter relay for the Patriots.

Hitchcock-Tulare’s Logan LaBrie won the 200-meter dash with teammate Payton Chasing Hawk runner-up. Chasing Hawk also took second in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles.

Hamlin’s Zac VanMeeteren won the 100-meter dash, while teammate Tate Everson won the discus.
