Roncalli defeats Roosevelt, falls to Watertown

WATERTOWN - Aberdeen Roncalli split a pair of tennis matches on Monday, blanking Sioux Falls Roosevelt 9-0 before dropping a 7-2 decision to Watertown. The Cavaliers won a variety of close matches to keep the Rough Riders off the board. "Ben Goebel raced out of the gates and then left the door open in the second set," said Roncalli coach Jason Haskell of the fourth flight singles player. "His opponent pushed him to a tiebreaker in set two and then Ben owned the tiebreaker for a commanding 7-1 victory." No match was closer than at flight two doubles where Ezra Feickert and Goebel ended up splitting sets before eventually prevailing 15-13 in a super tiebreaker. "We also got some younger kids on the court today, which was great," Haskell said. "It's always fun to see the younger kids get some match play."
