
Members of the Aberdeen Swim Club recently capped off a season of first-place finishes.
Leading the way were Gena Jorgenson and Joseph Grebner, who both won state championships in all seven of the individual events they competed in.
Jorgenson also competed in the Futures Finals and qualified for the Winter Junior Nationals in Austin, Texas this December.
Here is a look at all of the ASC members who won championships at the State B Tournament in Huron:
8&under Girls: Braelyn Anderson: 200 IM, and 100 butterfly.
8&under Boys: Camden Cahoy: 200 freestyle and 100 freestyle; Axton LaFave: 50 butterfly and 100 breaststroke.
9-10 boys: Levi Leslie: 200 freestyle; Cole Malsam: 200 IM and 100 freestyle.
11-12 boys:Weston Schaeffer: 50 breaststroke.
13-14 girls:Addison Edwards: 50 freestyle; Kiera Haugen: 200 back, 400 freestyle, 100 backstroke, 100 breaststroke, and 100 freestyle.
13-14 boys:Matt Peterson: 200 backstroke, 200 breaststroke, and 800 freestyle; Alex Palmer:100 butterfly.
15-16 girls: Miranda Maas: 200 IM.
17-19 girls:Grace Nelson: 100 butterfly.
B-Champ Relay Champions
8&under 200 medley relay team of Braelyn Anderson, Savanna Miller, Addy Torbert and Camden Cahoy.
11-12 boys 200 freestyle relay team of Quinton Anderson, Connor Borchers, Isaac Torbert, and Weston Schaeffer.
Kiera Haugen was overall high point for the 13-14 girls.
Matt Peterson was over-all high point winner for the 13-14 boys age group.
Here is a look at all of the ASC members who won Long Course State Championships in Brookings
9 & 10 girls: Lula Karst: 100 backstroke.
9 & 10 boys: Easton Ketterling: 200 freestyle, 200 IM, 100 backstroke, 50 freestyle, 50 backstroke, and 100 freestyle.
11-12 boys: Ryan Schmidt: 50 backstroke
13-14 boys: Joseph Grebner: 200 freestyle, 200 IM, 100 butterfly (SMR & OSR), 50 freestyle (SMR=State Meet Record & OSR=Over-all State Record), 400 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, 100 freestyle (SMR). Joseph was state champion in each of his 7 individual events.
17-19 girls: Lilly Grebner: 200 IM, 200 breaststroke and 200 butterfly; Alexia Hoven: 100 butterfly; Gena Jorgenson: 1500 freestyle (SMR), 200 freestyle, 400 IM (SMR), 200 backstroke; 400 freestyle (SMR), 100 freestyle, and 800 freestyle (SMR&OSR). Gena was state champion in each of her 7 individual events.
Relay State Champions:
9-10 boys 200 medley relay made up of Pierson Schaeffer, Easton Ketterling, Jackson Borchers, and Cole Malsam.
15-19 girls 200 and 400 medley relay made up of Gena Jorgenson, Lilly Grebner, Alexia Hoven and Anna Schmidt. They broke the SMR in the 400 medley relay.
Easton Ketterling was first place high-point winner in 9-10 boys age group.
Joseph Grebner was overall high point winner in the 13-14 boys age group.
Gena Jorgenson was overall high point winner in the 17-19 girls age group.
Lisa Jorgenson was chosen by her coaching peers as South Dakota’s Year-Round Coach of the Year during the Long Course State Championships.
ASC had 3 swimmers participate in the Central Zones Championship in Westmont, Ill. The ASC swimmers that qualified for this championship meet as part of Team South Dakota were Lula Karst, Easton Ketterling and Ryan Schmidt.
Lula Karst was 7th in the 9-10 girls 100 freestyle, 9th in the 100 back, 7th in the 50 free, 14th in the 100 breaststroke, and 11th in the 50 backstroke.
Easton Ketterling was 15th in the 9-10 100 free, 11th in the 100 back, 15th in the 50 free, 12th in the 400 free, 14th in the 200 freestyle and 14th in the 50 backstroke.
Ryan Schmidt was 18th in the 11-12 50 backstroke, 15th in the 100 back, 13th in the 200 back and 17th in the 100 fly.
Futures Finals swims was a prelims/finals meet with the 32 fastest swims in the preliminary heats returning in the evening for finals.
Alexia Hoven made it back for finals in the 200 butterfly where she placed 32nd.
Gena Jorgenson swam in the finals of the following events: 200 free, 400 IM, 400 freestyle, and 200 backstroke. She was 23rd in the 200 free, she was 12th in the 400 IM, 17th in the 400 freestyle, and 14th in the 200 backstroke. She also swam both the 800 free and 1500 free as timed finals. She placed 9th overall in the 800 freestyle (OSR) and was 5th overall in the 1500 freestyle (OSR).
Jorgenson’s 1500 freestyle time earned her a 2021 Winter Junior Nationals time cut which will allow her to swim that event in Austin, Texas in December. The Winter Junior Nationals meet highlights the fastest 18& under swimmers in the nation.
The Swim Club will have an open house and in-water evaluation on Tuesday from 7 to 8 at the Northern State Pool. A free two-week trial will start the following evening.
